Political Theory in International Relations Essay Example for Free

Political Theory in International Relations EssayWorld politics is a real broad and challenging topic to discuss. Indeed it is so hard to understand the facts about innovation politics. I suppose that the study of world politics itself requires indepth and perfect(a) research on the topic. When facts are put the way they are, world politics be tots even more complicated. Since politics is the process by which heap make decisions, these decisions buns vary depending on the environment, culture and the policy-making history and backgrounds. The fact that politics depend on an individual view makes the matter more complicated. Different people may have different ideologies has to the organization of politics in their country but all these have to be harmonized so that we have a central government which is organised. (Alan, 1997 pp. 190) Theory is key in understanding world politics because it is the basis with which a particular group will adopt a particular political pattern . Democratic kinds of governments have had this type of system because of theories. A theory is an abstract preposition about an object, person or situation.According to some political systems they is an open system whereby the state supposes that the people will participate in free politics. Theory has ingestn the division of politics into re seduce vanish and left wing politics. Though this theory has been in use for a along time, the use has been used by nation to nation differently. In essence the meaning of right wing politics is the type of political organization which values tradition and capitalism i. e. they regard most social inequality as a moderate of natural inequalities. The left wing theory of politics values egalitarianism i. e. they try to eradicate social inequality in their systems. Some ideologies tend to combining both left wing and right wing politics coming up with views held by liberals, socialists and conservatives. These are normally referred to as the Christian democracy. (Waltz, 1959 pp. 362) Theorists have come up with several theories to excuse the world politics and if we are to understand well these theories we need to know what they use as a gauge. The theorists belief that inorder to waitress at the actors who interact in politics we must look at the system with which they interact. Its important to look at the setup of political structures and see the fundamental characteristics which can translate to the world politics. The organisation of the world politics is so much seen in the setup of the domestic politics. Macroeconomic theory thinking theory ought to explain how politics should e like. It is said that nations in a political system are like firms in a domestic economy. all state has a core purpose of coexistence to survive despite the odds. If a state is to survive therefore their is need for an organised political system. (Elshtain, 1995. pp 570) The state has to form a structure which is organised and ordered and this is evident from its differentiation and specification of units. The units should be organised in a way that they harmonise each other, theorists explain that their is need for a comprehensive setup of a theory so that the politics of the world will be in harmony. Conclusion The topic of world politics is very important yet very controversial. Today there is no accepted formula or way of rule of the politics. Theory has veritable from time immemorial and is very significant in understanding the politics of the world. Variations, however still arise as to whether the stability of the nations contribute to the world politics. Do countries which are termed stable have a stand in politics do they influence the world politics? Are states like the US of import to the world politics? And are the developing and the less developed countries of influence to the world politics? All these are questions which are so important in understanding the world politics and if we have to harmonize t he meaning of world politics, then we need to stick to the theories which are drawn from several parts of the divide. fictional character Elshtain, J. Turkish Woman Essay Example for Free

Turkish Woman EssayBeing able to assist a person when in penury is one of the most satisfying psychological experiences a person goes through. Human organisms leave a social perspective in nature which makes them want to correspond with former(a)s especially those with whom one can comfortably relate with because of some similar characters such as refining, class, religion and class. At the same time a being for a unusual in another country is very challenging and calls for high tolerance and perseverance of the foreigner. When a person is a foreign in another a country he/she may baptistery hardships in terms of discrimination, legal policies, language barrier, social and economic disparities and other issues what exit came about. Thus, it becomes as a welcomed relief if such an individual gets a fellow country man or adult female to assist him/her to settle in the foreign land. The Turkish woman As pertaining to wherefore the Turkish woman already in America willin g want to assist fellow Turkish people climax to America, there will be several reasons to explain this, are individual(prenominal), social and political.Below are some of the reasons that try to explain wherefore the Turkish woman is helping others Alienation This normally occurs in late Turkish people due to the assimilation difficulties that they will experience in their America as they trial to adapt to the new country. This leads to the alienating of the new Turkish people from their culture stimulating the identity crisis within their societies. This alienation can lead social isolation that might also lead to depression through stress anger and fatigue which normally happen to detract the new Turkish people from subsiding in America. This case of alienation has been shown to let taken a large proportion of the new Turkish members of the ball club who are classified as foreigners. Thus, that is why the Turkish woman is assisting fellow Turkish people to settle and find jobs in America. Psychological Insinuation Another reason as to why the woman is helping other Turkish people to settle in America is because of psychological insinuation.Racial disparity is said to be having psychological implication on new Turkish people coming in the American society since the Turkish are forced to participate in a particular culture in America, especially in institution such as schools and companies. This is so because it forces them to alter to their home cultures. Through this, the new Turkish people will face a variety of conflicts giving rise to a psychological and identity problem. It is true that coming to a new country, particularly in America will highly challenge the individual. There is an increased need for a foreigner to be assisted in a new country so that he/she is able to undergo as minimal psychological insinuation. Therefore, the Turkish woman is assisting these people to able to reduce their psychological insinuation that they may go through. c ancel discrimination It is said that discrimination in any place has a diversified effects on the people being discriminated about, which normally differ with the front of galore(postnominal) factors including those of self attitudes and the cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. These factors target those people who are viewed as foreigners whereby a negative impact is brought, i. e. when a community fails to address the needs of its new members. This may be done when the community is formulating its polices that include the exclusion of minority/foreign cultures and languages which proves to lack relevance to the community. This in turn make foreigners to make relaxed hope whereby they fail to settle and some of them may give up and opt to go their home country such issues lead to increase in difficulties for the new turkey arrival in America. However, if there are assisted by someone whom they know they easily overcome such issues. Same unearthly beliefs The other reason as t o why culture forms a central core of the Turkish woman to help fellow Turkish people is that of religion. devotion is a system of shared beliefs and rituals concerned with the sphere of the sacred or the supernatural and it usually affects the way of living especially in another country. agree to latest research ethical systems consists of moral principles that are used to shape and guide behavior and thus affects personal activities. With diversity of religion systems it becomes difficult for other people to settle successfully in another country because of the differences that are involved between religions. For example, Islam religion is viewed as with radical principles in the eyes of many western countries and many Muslims are treated with suspicion. More so in America many Muslims are being associated with terrorism activities Thus, it becomes very hard for a Turkish Muslim to get a job in America as many companies shun away from employing such people. Thus the reason why the woman is helping other fellow Turkish is because she understands their religious beliefs. What motivates the woman to do this job? Social responsibility It has been observed that human being have a social responsibility of assisting each other whenever possible. In such a case where one has already settled in a foreign land, and other countrymen come by, it becomes a social responsibility to assist them. Bearing in mind that that Turkish woman is working a certain organization, she has damp information about the legal working of the American system, the social welfare system, and where job opportunities can be found. At the same time the woman has knows where civic rights movements and other social bodies can be found, which can assisted the new Turkish people who are coming in to America. Thus, this is another reason why the woman is assisting other Turkish people. Gaining political fuel consumption rate Another reason why the woman is helping others may be because she wants to g ain political mileage among fellow countrymen, since they will feel indebted to her inn future. At the same time she will have an upper hand in the Turkish society in America and this can help her to advance her ideology among her people.Having political advantage comes with some political powers and benefits within the society. The woman thus, by the virtual of assisting others will have some powers that she will use in promoting the Turkish people interests in America. At the same time helping others will be easily settle in America and get jobs or schools will put them in a higher economic and social status. This will help them have economic powers that can be used to assist other either in America or back home. ConclusionHelping others is an important aspect in for an individual, it is more important when it comes to foreigners being assisted in other country. The reasons why a person helps others are varied and are both personal and social and can also be political. Discriminat ion, language barrier, religion, social and economic disparities among the natives and the foreigners are the major challenges that a person will encounter in a foreign land. For the Turkish woman, she helps others because of varied reasons that include among others avoidance of discrimination and legal understanding of the American system.

Alternate Energy Sources: An Analysis

Alternate Energy Sources An AnalysisDue to the predicted shortage of fossil fuels and different non-renew suitable cleverness inceptions, query is now feel at alternatives. These alternatives are known as renewable zero. Renewable vitality ensnareively use of goods and servicess natural re cums much(prenominal) as cheerfulness, wind, rain, tides and ge other(a)mal affectionateness, which give the bounce be natur wholey replenished. If the use of renewable verve isnt explored for future use, we may be living without appliances we take for granted today. For example, imagine a winter without a heater and a summer without air-conditioning, and day-to-day life without televisions, cars, washing machines, even lights. The undercoat could get to a stage where it was so severely scarred from wad trying to find more skill sources, that the damage is irreversible. With the current pulmonary tuberculosis rate of non-renewable heftiness, this scenario may very well be the sta te of the planet in future years.Hence, this paper will explore the use of the alternate causation source, solar condition for present and future use. The advantages and disadvantages of the energy source will be discussed, in relation to its technological, economical, viability factors. In doing so, the paper will attempt to prove that non only is solar energy as an alternate energy source better for the purlieu, but also verify that it is better for our economy in the farseeing run.Table of Contents1.0 entryway 41.1 Overview of Solar Energy 41.2 Everyday Usage 62.0 Technological Viability 62.1 Efficiency 83.0 Environmental Sustainability 84.0 Economical 95.0 Conclusion 10References 111.0 IntroductionIn todays climate of growing energy conducts and increasing environmental patronage, alternatives to the use of non-renewable and polluting fossil fuels drive home to be investigated. We require only re ally been looking at the possibility of solar causality seriously for th e past fifty years, and fossil run machines and might embeds have been exploreed for the past century. In the journal article, photovoltaics A Path to Sustainable Futures, Joshua M. Pierce states that since 1957, electrical energy demand in the US has increased by over 450% while the US population has increased by only 50%, which illustrates how the demand for electrical energy has grown. It has been estimated that we only have 50 to 70 years left of all fossil fuels at the current consumption rate. This is a scary figure, considering that as soon as 2050 there could be no more food to feed the industrialized machine. Something will have to change, its obvious, and renewable energy is the most logical answer .Green Peace India defines Renewable Energy as a sustainable energy source that comes from the natural environment that is perennial. Clean Renewable Energy are those, which do non contribute to any sort of emission harmful to lives such as radiation, ascorbic acid, or hav e-to doe with extractive processes, or which would cause large scale displacement of people or destruction of land and forest covers. (Green Peace India, 2009). In other words, renewable energy can be taken continuously from the natural environment and does not affect the normal activities in the biosphere. One such renewable energy source being considered for future use is solar energy.Photovoltaics, photo meaning light and voltaic meaning electricity, is ane of the fastest growing solar energy technologies. Photovoltaic devices, or solar cells, use semiconductor material to directly convert sunlight into electricity.Overview Solar EnergySolar cells, primarily made of silicon, absorb sunlight which contains photons, the energy by-products of the nuclear reaction in the sun. The photons release electrons that are captured in the form of an electric current which is apply as electricity. This is also known as the photoelectric effect. Solar energy is the oldest type of energy found on earth, as it is as old as the sun. Every second the world receives 95.8 gazillion watts of causation, (Pearce, 2002). That is well beyond the amount of power employ in one day.It is unknown when humans began using solar energy to improve their lifestyles. As furthermost as we know, people have always used the sun for growth, vision and warmth. Some of the first ancient cultures to use solar energy as warmth were those from the deserts, and dry areas. (Goswami, 1997)It was however recorded that countries such as Egypt, Libya and Algeria would build thick walls of mud to protect them from their harsh climate. For example, during the hot days the wall would absorb the suns energy, sledding the huts cool, and during the night when temperature were much colder, the walls when emit the days heat inside. (Goswami, 1997)Throughout history people have experimented with the many uses of the suns power. In the 17th century, scientists in Europe began rediscovering the sun. When a Frenc h scientist proved that the suns rays could melt copper and fuse pieces of iron if cin one casentrated and focused through and through a glass prism, people began to see the usable power of the sun. In the 1690s an Italian scientist invented a solar furnace that was so hot it could shatter a diamond, one of the hardest substances on earth (Goswami, 1997)Using the sun to produce energy was explore in greater lengths in the 19th century.During this time, an engineer named Frank Shuman, made a breakthrough. He built a plant that used meek-spirited troughs covered in glass with a few inches of water. This was exposed to the sun, the water would become very hot, causing it to circulate and power an electric generator. He was able to find financial backers and built the worlds first solar electric power plant in Egypt. However, the Eastern Sun Power Company went out of business organization even though it was using free fuel. It didnt produce enough electricity for the area that it use d, 14,000 sq. ft of sun-collecting land. (Pearce, 2002)In 1954 Bell Laboratories invented the first photovoltaic (or solar) cell, made from the semi-conductor silicon, and other elements. It was the first way to convert sunlight directly into electricity. These solar cells were chosen as the power source for the satellites in the 1960s, because they can be dwarfish and light, and dont need heavy batteries or other types of generating electricity. After NASA and other major researchers backed solar energy, the technology greatly improved. The first major use of solar cells, other than in satellite, were various emergency units and in remote areas where power lines couldnt be reached. (Energy Matters Pty Ltd). In these situations, it was more expensive to run power lines than to purchase the costly solar equipment. For example, in the high mountains of Papua New Guinea, where there is too much jungle for easy access, there are necessary telephone lines run by solar power and only vis ited for routine check-ups.1.2 Everyday UsageNumerous devices for collecting solar energy and converting it into electricity have been developed throughout the years, and solar energy is now being used in a variety of ways. As well as supplying energy to residential homes and companies, they are popularly used in agriculture where they supply the power to pump water, prevent ice from forming on ponds where livestock drink, heating barns to keep animals from freezing, and temporary lighting. They are also used to operate electric dams in areas that cannot be supplied by power lines.Solar powered objects have started to appear quite commonly in many consumer items such as watches, radios, calculators, rechargeable batteries, flashlights, etc. The main attraction in these items is that you dont have to replace the batteries, which saves money in the long run. (International Solar Energy, 2006)2.0 Technological ViabilityThe time in which solar energy is available, is also the time we le ast need it least daytime. One disadvantage of solar power, according to International Solar Energy is its organic structure and reliability. Solar-powered devices rely on the steady delivery photon to keep the electricity generating process going, as discussed previously. When the sun falls below the horizon at night, photons stop touch the solar panels and the power drops instantly. However, the improvement in technological advancement over the last few years, have seen the construction of a solution. As the suns energy cannot be stored for use another time, we need to convert the suns energy into an energy that can be stored. Due to this nature of solar energy, two components are required to have a functional solar energy generator. These two components are a collector and a storage unit. The collector collects the radiation that falls on it and converts a fraction of it to other forms of energy (either electricity and heat or heat alone). Solar collectors use reflective materia ls such as mirrors or lenses to c at oncentrate the suns energy to provide heat energy which is therefore converted into electricity. This can be done in three ways. The first method is a trough strategys which use curved mirrors to concentrate the suns heat onto a tube which contains a fluid, usually oil. The hot oil then boils water to produce steam which is used to render electricity.Alternatively, mirrors in the shape of a dish can be also used to concentrate the suns heat onto a receiver. The latter transfers the solar energy to a heat engine, converting the heat into mechanical energy which drives a generator to produce electricity. This method is called the dish/engine outline.A third method of concentrating the suns energy is through the use of power towers which provide a centralized power supply with the ability to store energy. These systems use a large array of mirrors, called heliostats. These heliostats concentrate the heat onto a receiver on top of the towers. The receiver contains a fluid that once modify can be used to produce steam which then turns a turbine to produce electricity.(Markvart Castaer, 2003)The storage unit is required because of the non-constant nature of solar energy at certain times only a very down in the mouth amount of radiation will be received. At night or during heavy cloud cover, for example, the amount of energy produced by the collector will be quite small. The storage unit can hold the excess energy produced during the periods of supreme productivity, and release it when the productivity drops. One possible method of storing solar energy is by heating water that can be insulated. The water is heated by passing it through hollow panels. Black-coated steel plates are used because grim colours absorb heat more efficiently. However this method only supplies enough energy for activities such as washing and bathing. The solar panels furnish low grade heat, that is, they generate low temperatures for the amount of heat needed in a day.Apparently, according to International Solar Energy Pty Ltd, in order to generate high Grade heat, intense enough to convert water into high-pressure steam which can then be used to turn electric generators there must be another method. The concentrated beams of sunlight are Collected in a device called a solar furnace, which acts on the same principles as a large magnifying glass. The solar furnace takes the sunlight from a large area and by the use of lenses and mirrors can focus the light into a very small areaIt was found that, a backup power supply is usually normally added, too, for the situations when the amount of energy required is greater than both what is being produced and what is stored in the container. An divulge raised by International Solar Energy Pty Ltd, was that only regions with lots of sunlight are suitable for solar power generation. But this concern is currently being worked on as scientists have just recently invented a plastic solar ce ll that can convert solar energy to electrical energy even on a cloudy day. This plastic device, containing the first solar cells able to harness the suns invisible rays. Also, the researchers are holding this futurist view that plastic solar panels could be laid across deserts to provide the entire planet with enough clean energy.Another solution to the issue of the inconsistent light is being researched right now by Arthur D. Little Inc. The suns rays are not constant on earth due to weather, location, and season. To avoid this scientists have envisioned huge solar powered space stations that would orbit the earth, capable of sustaining themselves for decades. (Committee on Aeronautical and Space Science, 2005). They would generate electricity by a vast array of mirrors on solar cells, and then the energy would be converted to micro-waves that could be beamed to earth and then distributed. These stations are estimated to be well-nigh 10 miles long, and some 23,000 miles above the earth. As far fetched as this seems, its actually theoretically possible, and may one day be our source of power. One defect in the plan however, is that there is actually quite a lot of space debris floating around at high velocities. If this debris collided with the solar panels, as it invariably would, they would be damaged. How much, and at what price is still to be figured (Goswami, 1997)Another idea is the solar farm. It would be ideally located in desert regions where it is sunny almost every day. The farms would actually harvest sunshine, using flat plate collectors to absorb immense amounts of heat, which would in turn heat water. The heated water would turn giant turbines, and produce electricity.3.0 EfficiencySolar cells, contain no moving parts, and have a working life of 20 30 years. According to Convincing the Home Builder to Build Solar Homes-Evaluation of the Passive Solar Workshop for Builders by S. Klein, they are reliable because they operate for a long time wit h practically no maintenance .Most of the photovoltaic cells on the market today operate at an efficiency of less than 15% that is, of all the radiation that falls upon them, less than 15% of it is converted to electricity. The maximum theoretical efficiency for a photovoltaic cell is only 32.3%, but at this efficiency, solar electricity is very economical. Most of our other forms of electricity generation are at a lower efficiency than this. Unfortunately, reality still lags behind possible action and a 15% efficiency is not usually considered economical by most power companies, even if it is fine for toys and pocket calculators. Hope for bulk solar electricity should not be abandoned, however, for recent scientific advances have fixd a solar cell with an efficiency of 28.2% efficiency in the laboratory. This type of cell has not been field tested. If it maintains its efficiency in the uncontrolled environment of the outside world, and if it does not have a tendency to break down , it will be economical for power companies to build solar power facilities after all.4.0 Environmental SustainabilityIt is estimated that the sunlight that falls on the surface of the earth in the time period of two weeks is resembling in energy to all the energy stored in all the oil and natural gas and coal and other fuels that exist on, or under the earth (Markvart Castaer, 2003)Solar power has two big advantages over fossil fuels. The first is in the fact that it is renewable it is never going to run out. The second is its effect on the environment. According to Solar Heating Systems Analysis and Design with the Sun-Pulse Method by Gordon F. Tully, solar cell systems do not harm the environment, as do conventional methods of power generation. The sun is an infinite source of energy and since its use for powering homes causes no damage to the environment. We should use the clean and silent energy source it to its maximum potential. As the primary element of construction of sola r panels, silicon, is the second most common element on the planet. Therefore, there is very little environmental commotion caused by the creation of solar panels. (Markvart Castaer, 2003)While the burning of fossil fuels introduces many harmful pollutants into the atmosphere and contributes to environmental problems like global warming and acid rain, solar energy is completely non-polluting. While many acres of land must be destroyed to feed a fossil fuel energy plant its required fuel, the only land that must be destroyed for a solar energy plant is the land that it stands on.However, solar energy only causes environmental disruption if it is centralized and produced on a gigantic scale. At this scale, the production of solar energy would have some unpredictable negative environmental cause. If all the solar collectors were placed in one or just a few areas, they would probably have large effects on the local environment, and mayhap have large effects on the world environment. E verything from changes in local rain conditions to another ice age has been predicted as a result of producing solar energy on this scale. The problem lies in the change of temperature and humidity near a solar panel if the energy producing panels are kept non-centralized, they should not create the same local, mass temperature change that could have such bad effects on the environment. (Tully, 1981)In due course, solar power will reduce the emissions associated with power generation. Consistent with, Solar Heating Systems Analysis and Design with the Sun-Pulse Method by Gordon F. Tully, with 1 million solar energy roofs are in place, could reduce carbon emissions equal to the annual emission from 850,000 cars.5.0 EconomicalFor many. fossil fuels are too available and cheap for the investment in solar energy to be worthwhile. Ironically, although the suns energy is free, the curse of solar power is that the techniques are always too expensive. (Green Peace, 2006)One major concern wi th solar power is cost-effectiveness. The silicone used for production , is one of the most readily available elements on earth. Nevertheless, the kind of grade silicon needed for solar cells is very expensive. It is grown in tall cylinders, and then glow in thin segments. The cutting process is wasteful and expensive (Pearce, 2002). A new product is polycrystalline silicon, which is grown in thin sheets and cut in squares. In Peter Lorenz, Dickon Pinner, and Thomas Seitz article The economics of solar power it states that Although polycrystalline is not as efficient as natural silicon, its significantly cheaper, and let down the cost is one of the most important things in making solar energy practical. The initial cost of installing a solar power system is preventing current installation for these devices . The Australian Governments, and many others across the world had recognize this and are offering annual rebates and tax incentives to customers who install the systems in their homes.Consumers with solar power systems in their homes will save about(predicate) 50-60% on their utility bills, (Energy Matters Pty Ltd). These savings will exceed the original cost of a system in about 10-12 years. After the initial cost is covered, the customer is still saving thousands of dollars in utilities compared to electricity and gas usage. As we burn more fossil fuels, the costs of electricity and gas would be subject to increase over the years. With solar powered home, monthly bills would stay about the same no matter how expensive electricity and gas become. The financial savings of solar-powered homes is an extra benefit for consumers who know that their homes are helping to preserve our environment. The great thing about solar power is that once youve paid for the system you dont have to worry about rising utility costs. Youre basically buying all your electricity at once. However, the cost is still a main factor to be considered. Arrays of rooftop solar panels capa ble of generating one kilowatt of electricity cost at least $7,500 even with the solar panels now cost about one-third of what they did a decade ago. (Lorenz, Pinner, Seitz, 2008) Still, the average household requires two to four times that much power, meaning that it would take about a $30,000 system to save about $15 per month for each kilowatt of power generated. It would take about 20 years until enough electricity would be generated to reap up for the investment. (Energy Matters Pty Ltd).Despite the great cost of solar energy systems, people are still investing in them because of their obvious benefit to the environment and because once you have it installed, the energy is free. As technology improves, solar energy will become more economically feasible because the price of solar panels will go down.6.0 ConclusionThe number of advantages associated with using solar power for the future, greatly out way the disadvantages. Many of the issues explored throughout this paper are c urrently being research or have already solved, some of which show great promise for the future. Despite being currently still quite expensive, and showing negative effects to the environment if implemented in a large centralised scale, there is no doubt that solar energy will continue to grow and behind replace the fossil-fuelled world around it .Besides the upcoming scarcity of fossil fuels, their highly pollutive nature makes solar energy a much healthier and wiser decision. The fear of exhaust all our resources has also spurred further development of alternative fuels, and created a greater interest in overcoming those disadvantages of solar power that remain. Technology changes rapidly, and the number of disadvantages of solar power that seemed virtually impossible only a few years ago are now relatively minor inconveniences.Hopefully, with continued this research, we will be in a place one day where we can directly rely on the sun for all our energy needs, and never have to u se pollutant non renewable resources again. With an energy source like solar power, thats environmentally safe, capable of producing the raw power to satisfy the entire planets energy needs, we would be incredibly foolish not to use it.

Impact Of Terrorism On Hotel Security

Impact Of Terrorism On Hotel SecurityToday, the tourism environment is increasingly becoming more and more complex. Many countries be losing their tourism diligence because of it.The question modality bug tabu is THE IMPACT OF TERRORISM ON HOTEL SECURITY A CASE STUDY OF BASILAN PROVINCE, PHILIPPINES which volition be achieved by doing epistemology favorableness search on two beas Filipinos local hotels and random tourists from the world. The query program go forth focus on how hotel credentials in the Philippines is being affected by the act of act of act of terrorism and effective methods they apply for rectification.Any types of terrorism are difficult to swallow. The land may be also simple or theoretical. Most of the terrorism acts are motivated by two thingsSocial and political injustice some cadences people chose terrorism because they think the right thing is not happening. So, when the things go wrong, they want to take the responsibility to fix the conun drum.Violence means justify the end numerous people believe that, with tabu violence thither are no closure for their problem. So they had to go for the last option because nothing was working.Terrorism is not new it has been utilize many times in history. And the originator is large(p) to define. Mostly terrorism described as a crime and a holy duty so that the people doing terrorism can justify themselves. jibe to their point of view they are right so many supporters regard as them. Most of the terrorist organization now days, does not take aim a valid reason for what they are doing and they are rattling secretive nature. However, the terrorism activity is creating many problems over the world. Many countries mystify their own small group of terrorist. The tourism intentness is highly affected by the terrorism attract. As example, the country like Philippines tourism ride is highly affected by terrorism. They are losing them hotel management manufacture as wellhead.1 .2 query Question -HypothesisThe interrogation will be done in two part/ sector. The sector is actually small so the effort conceive look will be more appropriate for this case. The query will have the peoples view and logic. It will have social reality as objective (Marchington, 2000). The research question is THE IMPACT OF TERRORISM ON HOTEL SECURITY A CASE STUDY OF BASILAN PROVINCE, PHILIPPINES. This research question will aim at identifying and exploring how terrorism is impact the tourism and hotel diligence (Jankowicz, 2000). The research will seek out the core problems of terrorism attracts towards hotel perseverance which will be seen necessary to assisting aim out the hotel management (Newell, 2005). The objectives of the study are as followsTo at a lower placestand the level of situation by conducting a adopt. To analyse the terrorism act and the hotel management industry of Philippine (Saunders, 2000). This will be done by analysing habit of tourism, way to s olve the problem etc.To suggest a strategy to rectification to thin out the terrorism within the country.1.3 Aims and Objectives of Research Process (A Healthy Tourism)The research aims and objectives are to identify the effective method to develop hotel industry of Philippine and reduce the terrorism process (Wain, 2008). This idea will look at various options that are available in this area in assign to identify the core problem (Bryman Bell, 2007). There are various traditional approaches that corporations adopt in order to develop hotel management situation in the selected area. These are such as reason for losing the industry, managing effectively, development for short and long term etc. Terrorism has so many meanings. A common view is to avoid the situation (Onions, 1973).1.4 Justification/ principle of Topic SelectionToday the business world is full of competition. They have to be very careful about decision making, to be in the survey of competition, the Hotel industr y must emphasise on the alternative solution and increase the number of tourist and develop the faith. This dissertation demonstrates how and why terrorism demolishes the tourism industry and how the hotel industry of Philippine is getting highly affected (Burack, 1991), why should we harness the problem or why its necessary to find solution and what will be the result of it.The justification of this study is to identify the way to find out the problem regarding terrorism affecting tourism in the Philippines. And support the related solution to improve according to the problem. The research will attend them to find the right method (Nadler, 1992).This will highlight current strategies used in developing and reforming. in any case the Research will allow the solution methods that will be proposed for the Industry.1.5 LimitationsThe limitation of this research will be limited number of sample (Cameron, 2009). The research will be done in a small area in the Philippines. So the s ample number will not be more than 15 to 20 people. And the research will mostly sum out the common expectation and result of the sample size (Brown, 2006 and Bryman, 2008). The sample results will be nearly same for everyone. So the data will not have much diversification. So the conclusion and recommendation will not have uncommon outcome. The time frame for conducting research will be a limitation as it can avoid complete results (Fox-Wolfgramm, 1997). A preferred research contains more participants (Echeverri, 2005). The employee affaire will be a limitation as for the interview they to a fault going to give some extra time. And also we have got a controversial research take on which people does not want to berate much. So it may be the limitation for the research.1.6 Outline of paperThe outline of the paper will include the whole research proposal summery. The first chapter is introduction where the research topic got introduced. The first chapter outlines the purpose and t he structure of the study along with the briny limitations of the research (Taylor, 1994). The second chapter provides a slender analysis of the existing literature regarding the Terrorist affecting tourism. The third Chapter continues by the main methodo uniform approach concerned in relation to the study alongside its sample procedures and ethical considerations for the success of this research (Coulson Thomas, 2001). And the forth chapter will be the conclusion and summary of the study as well as the Justification of topic, Clarification of research question and how it will be.1.7 ConclusionThe first chapter has points out the purpose of this study. It also introduced the methods we will be using for the research. This chapter introduced the topic and the limitation of the research. That will help to conduct research in scientific method. The next chapters are literature followup and methodology, will give a logical look to the research (Likert, 1961). The first chapter organi zes the information to help the research to go further.Chapter 2 Literature Review2.1 IntroductionHere is one definition of a literature review a literature review uses as its database reports of limited or original scholarship, and does not report new primary scholarship itself. The primary reports used in the literature may be verbal, but in the vast majority of cases reports are written documents (Buyens, 2001). The types of scholarship may be empirical, theoretical, critical/analytic, or methodological in nature. Second a literature review seeks to describe summaries, evaluate, clarify and/or integrate the content of primary reports. (Cooper, 1988). The literature review will introduce the detail of topic and what the research will contain and will answers the questions like, how we can help to reduce the terrorist act in the tourism industry or how to rectify it (Block, 2008). The chapter will introduce effective method applicable for development of the situation. The liter ature review will be structured o bring out the maximum information to justify the topic (Putnam, 2000).2.1.1 Definitions and Introduction to the TopicThe impact of terrorism on hotel security department A case study of Basilan Province, PhilippineDefinition what do we understand by terrorism activities? Basically terrorism is considered the most important conflict without realising threat a collectst the human (Pierre Gurdjian, 2009). Most of the terrorist organization conducts terrorism without any calculative reason. By finding out the reason of how terrorism affecting tourism industry, it will highlight the hotel security system of the Philippine (Karolina Lena, 2010).The topic of the research is THE IMPACT OF TERRORISM ON HOTEL SECURITY A CASE STUDY OF BASILAN PROVINCE, PHILIPPINES. The topic will allow us to go done to find out the current situation of hotels and tourism of Philippine to find out the related solutions.2.2 Strategies for Identification and causes of terroris m and means of rectificationNow a days, terrorism is affecting tourism very badly. As example, Balis (Indonesia) tourism rate was highly affected by the terrorist bombing in the year 2002. People are in truth affected by the situation. And still people do think second time before going to Bali (Peter Senge, 1990). The survey will have the strategies to find out the peoples expectation, cogniseledge about terrorism act, how they are affected by the act. And also will find out the how people are reacting towards the situation (Hame Prahaled, 1994).2.2.1 Find out the Reaction and reflection. The research will conduct a survey to find out the reaction and reflection of the research question. As the sample size is really small the surveys will be done by traditional, demeanoural and semi structured interviews (Cook, et al, 2000). A behavioural descriptive interview process is effective when applicants behaviour is significantly analysed during the interview process (Bernardi, 1997). Th e traditional interview to analyse the applicants abilities, personality and responses (Tanova, 2003). The semi structured interview will gain the in-depth information from the participants (Stokes Bergin, 2006)2.2.2 Causes of the Terrorism and how it is affecting Tourism of PhilippineUnited States of America defines terrorism as un rightful threat and violence to create fear. The terrorism is done in a very calculative method. There are main threesome main elements, political, religious and ideological. The end result of it is violence, fear and intimidation. In Philippine the terrorism is against the government. It is based on political issue conducted by Islamic terrorist group. Since January 2000 radical Islamist group and Islamic separatist forces are responsible many terrorism act such 40 major bombing against local people. It happened mostly in southern part of the country and Basilan is one of the major cities which is affected.2.2.3 Rectification of the situationThe touri sm industry widely distributed is has been affected by the threat terrorism attacks in modern era. Especially it affected Hotels, which serve a core function as supplier of tourist accommodation (Purcell et al, 2003). It is very important to enhance security awareness and skill that the employees needed. Technology is very important element. The situations will under control if the communication cooperation and collaboration is strong between the hotels. If the bonding is strong within the industry and with external stakeholders than government will also be strong to bring success against the terrorism (Jackson and Schuler, 1995).Hotel Industry of BasilanTerrorist incident can be very harmful and it leaves an impact on the hotel sector. Hotels have history for being targeted many times for terrorism act. The terrorist attracts those hotels which ordinarily has more foreign traveller for business and official purpose. (Aragon-Sanchez et al, 2003). Security is very important for the hotel. They should have essential technological support for security. As example, they must have CCTVs. The hotel with large compound must have more cameras in many corners. The Philippine police force gives the premium support for the hotels. So far security system had been revised and tightened after 11 September 2001 (Pfeffer, 2005). Additional cameras are include. Instead of room keys the sensor cards were introduced in most of the big hotels. Employees went through special training (Wright et al, 2004).Reason for targeting hotels because they offer high degree of access and it is usually 24 hours a day (Junior, Middle Senior Managers) Luxurious hotels have more public activities, spaces and entrance and exits. And foreigners also pull together there. In big hotels, there are many prestigious conferences and meetings are conducted (Holton III Naquin, 2005). In many cases many political body, government officials gathered together in the hotels. According to the architectural design most of the hotels have grand specious lobby for which security is unlikely to have guided rule (Stead, 2004).However many techniques such as protective barriers, surveillance, identification of employees and alarm system are essentially reactive. We should also remember that, terrorists know the smarter way to use the technologies. They have using the technologies in a very sophisticated way (Kessels, 1993).2.2.5 Hotel Industry ResearchSo far, research in the hotel industry security has limited to date. A complete research always explained that hotel have such an environment for which terrorism is always invited. (Anderson, 2007). It is now not possible for the hotels which already exist. But for the new constructions, it is very important to redesign and maintain security strategies. Policies and practice need to change. It is very important to check the reason of the employees specially employees who has certain level of power and responsibility (Fairbairns, 1991). When we are talking about hotel protection and tourism it clearly presents dilemmas for management and circumstances in Philippines are explored after the presentation of some information about the country because it pertinent to the discussion (Jackson, 1989).Gap in the LiteratureAbove information are gathered through time. Like history, terrorism is still a mystery and hard to understand. In many cases the hotel may need extra security for any special event (Boyatzis, 2008). No one can take guaranty of what is going to happen. So, no one is ready to take the responsibility. And to many, it is a loss project now. It is also a risky business (Pilbeam Corbridge, 2002). In that case the research might take a diverse shape. (Boyatzis, 2008). People are not interested to talk about the situations. Local people are not interested and they think they have no future in tourism industry. So, even though the research and solution it is very hard to motivate the local people. All depends the lev el of terrorism and patient of the hotel owners (Pilbeam Corbridge, 2002).2.4 ConclusionThe literature review will select the way to find out the way of the situation and the right method (Brooks Hulme, 2007). According to the survey result the research will try to develop a persona of the current status of Basilan, Philippines. It will also specify the components, methodology and obligations of the tourist and terrorism (Shields, 2007). Other than that Literature review will also explain the terrorism act happening all over the world. It will highlight some key examples as well. The literature review will also mentioned about the gaps of the research.Chapter 3 Methodology3.1 IntroductionMethodology reminds us the word method. And we believe probably they are similar. But methodology has a particular meaning an ology of caterpillar track is the study of a whole academic field (Gill, 1997). Methodology is the study of methods and it raises all sorts of philosophical questions ab out what it is possible for researchers to know and how valid their claims to knowledge might be.The research will be intensively based on the accruement of primary data and analysis of both primary and secondary data (Locke, 1993). The major conviction of the research design is collection of primary data via interviews and then preference will be given on case studies and organizational documents. The type of questions in the interview is contained of two parts (Yin, 1994). The part one tries to explore the reason of terrorism however the Part two actually examines how it is affecting tourism industry and peoples opinion about Philippine. The purpose of this chapter is to find out the right method to conduct the survey. The purpose of the survey, the way we will collect the data, the philosophy of the survey etc (Remenyi, 1998).3.2 Research PhilosophyManagement research is both about knowledge and action (McNiff, 1996). The relationship between knowledge and action is not straigh t forward. While there are several issues that one needs to consider at the outset of a qualitative journey we believe that familiarity with the basic Philosophical aspects underpinning qualitative research is a prerequisite (Eriksson Kovalainen, 2008).Ontology and epistemology interested in examine the same phenomenon, but their believe will lead them to set up their studies differently because of their views of evidence, analysis and purpose of research meaning (Potter, 1996). Epistemology bring out the questions like what do we regard as knowledge or evidence of things in the social world what is our hypothesis of knowledge what are the principles and rules by which we decide whether and how social phenomena can be known and how knowledge can be demonstrated? (Brymen Bell, 2003). There are different epistemologies exists such as advantageousness, interpretive and constructionist.3.2.1 Research ParadigmRealism and positivism are often claimed to be the same but should be treat ed as separate approaches (Johnson and Duberly, 2000). Positivism believes only phenomena or knowledge confirmed by peoples senses. Thios theory needs to generate testable hypothesis which will allow the explanation of law (Brymen Bell, 2003). This theory gain knowledge through gathering facts. This research will follow the positivism as the realist researchers into management believe, with positivist, that the knowledge we gain through research can accurate mirror reality itself.Research paradigm will be analysing and evaluating the abstract belief in the way data should be collected, analysed and used in a research (Healy, et al., 2000 and Kupers, 2008). Two major research philosophies, positivism and phenomenological, for qualitative data collection will be essentially analysed in respect to both speculative beliefs in how data should be gathered using different approaches (Fisher, 2010). This section will use the research paradigm which is usually generated from the survey repo rt (Bryman Bell, 2007 Robson, 2002).Research paradigm should generally be seen through theoretical frameworks that direct the investigator to achieving his objective (Sobh Perry, 2006). A critical analysis on the three components of the research paradigm which include ontology, epistemology and methodology will be evaluated with contributions from different academic source (Healy Perry, 2000 Jankowicz, 2000). Ultimately, the next section will significantly analyse the research design in relation to the case study which will be under studied.3.3 Research DesignMost of the realist research is based upon a compare of qualitative case studies, which are analysed to whether there are any connections between variables. Qualitative case study provides a broader and deeper sense of processes may give an luck to work out the ways in which one variable is casually linked to others (Flick, 2002). The disadvantage of the case based approach is that there is often too small a sample of cases to claim to claim that the links of cause and effect identified apply generally (Kvale, 1996).The researcher has developed the questionnaire in order to collect qualitative data through interview. The language of the questionnaire is English, since the majority of the guests are international (Richards Morse, 2007). There will be three parts to the questionnaire, which will consist of list questions, rating questions and open questions. For the qualitative data which supplements the quantitative data, it will be faild using content analysis (Lofland, 1976).3.4 Sample of Participants / Procedure several(a) academic sources will contribute to evaluating and focusing on words in the collection and analysis of data as regards technique to collecting empirical data, the techniques include interviews, questionnaires and observational methods (Alam, 2005 Bryman Bell, 2007). However, the data collection methods to be used will be semi-structured interviews, direct observations, telephone and Skype which are sequentially addressed in due course as the research progress (Brannan, 2008).Interviewing 1 Director, Hotel of Basilan 1.Interviewing 1 Director, Hotel of Basilan 2This section will evaluate the amount of participants to be studied in the organisation followers sampling size method which is the most common procedure in qualitative research (Saunders, et al, 2007). The director and the security in charge of the hotel will provide most of the problems and development situation (Buyens Devos, 2001 Dalen, et al, 2001). The compilation of survey result and interview will conduct the research (Cameron Price, 2007).3.4.1 Data Collection toolThe data collection tool is the designed questionnaire, which is consisted of twenty questions. The collection will be through questions of open ended and close ended type (Bell, 1987). These types of questions will try to analyze the employees assessment and expectations regarding the learning development factors of the organiz ation. The research will be based on positivism principles with deductive approach (Coolical, 1990). Since no evident research has been preserve yet therefore major reliance will be over the primary data collection.3.4.2 Data AnalysisThis study expects to provide recommendations on upward(a) Hotel Industry. The study will aim to ascertain the level of tourist satisfaction in terms of tourism industry (Bulmer, 1977) to enable the industry of Philippine to gain a sustainable competitive development through applying different method (Feeney, 1990).3.5 Ethical ConsiderationsEthical consideration will analyse the import of considering the research ethical motive as a vital process that should be considered extensively to influencing the access of the researcher into the organisation as a whole to obtain the data under investigation (Saunders, et al, 2007).3.6 Validity and ReliabilityThe reliability of this research shows its validity because there are many research has done in this topi c and they were successfully utilise in the industries (Gill, 1991). The reliability and validity will be the true measurement and testing of the quality of the research work as well as an operator for conducting qualitative data collection methods (Alam, 2005 Bryman, 2008). This research will highlight two dimensions Reliability and validity to get the process and information (Preece, 1994)3.7 ConclusionThe methodology chapter included the research philosophy, paradigm and the design of the research. This chapter tried to show the justification of how this research should choose the right paradigm, philosophy (Kane, 1985). At the end the reliability and validity of carrying out this study will be to take into consideration the data to be analysed and implemented (Lawler, 1985).Chapter 4 Conclusion4.1 Summary of approach of researchThe research will analyse about the various approaches to evaluate successfully (Silverman, 1985). This will give a idea about Philippine Hotel and To urism Industry. This research will help to evaluate with the other terrorism affected country (Gummesson, 1991).4.2 Justification of topicThe justification of the research will be find out the serious understanding of terrorist attack in the Philippines and will try to provide the right advice and method. From this research the Hotel Industry will get to know about their insight gaps and level of effort they need to give to improve (Mabey Ramirez, 2004).4.3 Clarification of research question and how it will be addressedBefore we go through the survey, it is very important to know about Terrorism and tourism and how it is affecting hotel industries. It is also important to realise how it is capturing importance day by day (Tjepkema, 2001). After conducting the interviews, research philosophy and deductive, positivism research, we will understand the organizational current situation and way to implement the recommendations (Holbeche, 2007)

A business analysis project for Amazon.com

A job compendium project for Amazon.comINTRODUCTIONBusiness analysis, a performance of finding the needs and problems in channel and generating solutions to cater to those problems. These Solutions should revolve about to achieve improvements in the process, incorporation of organisational change, planning and exposement to set a system of action that is result oriented and effective. There are numerous tools and techniques used depending on the situation and requirement few are PESTEL, PORTERs model, SWOT analysis, HEPTALYSIS, MOST, CATWOE, DeBonos six thinking hats, MoSCoW, cinque whys, VPEC-T and more however only few of the above tools are used, very frequently in critical analysis at the initial presents.ABSTRACTIn this case we analyze as how Amazon.com has been performing off late, using the tools mentioned above. The advantages and disadvantages Amazon.com has over their rivals, where they bring in been lagging, their financial performance and strategic approach. Cri tical analysis willing be done on their vexation environment and strategic approach to highlight any possible shortfalls and to provide with appropriate recommendations for improvements. Internal and external analysis will be undertaken to determine their marting strategy, their response to global e-retailing industry.COMPANY PROFILEAmazon.com based in Washington and found by Jeff Bezos in 1994 is global attraction in e-commerce and it was the first company to introduce the design of interchange goods on the Internet. Initially Amazon.com started as an on descent bookstore and its success led Amazon to diversify into former(a) proceedss such as gifts, music, electronics, groceries, toys and many more. Probably today there is no point of intersection that Amazon.com doesnt sell. Amazon.com has developed unlike internet portal sites for different countries such as Canada, UK, Germany, France, China and Japan.Amazon.com was named after worlds largest river Amazon and was assig ned with a logo of an arrow starting from A to Z representing the node satisfaction as the highest priority and engross their store houses with every ingathering in the alphabet.Amazon.com was open for trading under NASDAQ with a symbol AMZN for the first time on 15 may, 1997 by release initial public offering at a determine of US $ 18/share.Amazon.com in its early stages was not very successful and did not evolve any profits, which made investors rethink intimately their portfolio, major business and process restructuring was require they had to cut down their costs to increase the profits and were tied up from diversifying into more products, however Amazon.com survived the dot com bubble in 2000 which was the core reason for many e- businesses to close down and this was the turning point for Amazon.com after which they finally in the fourth quarter, 2001 they made their first profit which generated revenues of more than a billion$ and $ 5million profits in just 1 quarter . This led Amazon.com to prove to the world that their business model was profitable and also they popularized online obtain which was recognized by time magazine and awarded Jeff as the business person of the year.1.3. MISSION VISION STATEMENTSAmazon.com slewOur vision is to be earths closely guest centric company to build a place where people groundwork come to find and discover anything they powerfulness indirect request to buy online. (Amazon.com, 2010)Above statement reflects that amazon.com wants to be global leader in e-retailing business by providing the quality products at affordable price using in style(p) locomotive room to build the customer informationbase and gain their loyalty towards the brand thereby catering to the stake urinateers interests and generating profits to the company. Expand themselves all over and build a virtual(prenominal) jesteret place where customers can shop comfortably from at home.ANALYSIS2.1. EXERNAL ANALYSISThe external environme nt also referred to as the macro-environment, plays a very critical role in the operations of any business. Key environmental factors such as political, economical, kind, technological, legal, etc. affect the organisations at various levels. It has become the need of the second to consider the potential impact of the external factors on the individual organisations. (Johnson et al, 2006).2.1.1 PESTEL analysisPESTEL analysis is conducted to determine current and future trends in political, economical, social, legal, environmental and technological environments, might influence the performance of business and what measures to be taken to avoid any shortfalls.PESTELFactorsKey PointsRelevance to Amazon.comPoliticalGovernment policies incorporate contender and promotion by liberalizing telecom and e-commerce legislationIncrease in affordability and internet usage.Investing in field ICT infrastructures by government (Euro monitor)Reliable, faster and better internet usage for the na tional users.Relaxation of competition policies in industry as compared to heavy industries in EU and North American regionsExpansion of markets at greater a footstep by mergers and acquisitions.EconomicTo control inflation, interest rates varied which s deplorables down the consumer spending in UK.Off late spending has seen a downfall in US and rise in Asian markets due to economic growth main reason being the credit crunch and tightening the housing bring (The Times online, 2008)Opens the gates to other global markets to such as India and china.Between 2006 and 2011 e-retailing grows tremendously by rising sales over 100%. This growth is back by increase in the physique of internet users in US, which has increased approximately by 85% after 2000. (Euromonitor International from national statistics)Increase in potential customers for Amazon.comThe annual disposable income exceeds US$5,000. by 2011 covering around 620 million households of these majority will be in Asia- Pacific next to western sandwich Europe. (Euro monitor International from national statistics)Increase in potential customers for Amazon.com leading to the notion of globalization.SocialPopularity and increased use of online social networking.Added advantage to market the product and the electronic networksiteInterface uncommitted for users to shop and the increase in number of products lead to drop in online shopping.Has to come up with a solution to constrict the gage and financial risks to users.Growth of internet from 2002 to 2011 is 288.7%. 28.9% of world population use the internet (Internet World Stats, 2009)Huge market available to exploit and gift.TechnologicalInnovation of in vogue(p) technologies increased broadcasting, internet glide slope at cheaper cost.Increase in number of users of technical devices such as mobile, iPods, TV, led for increase in internet access for online shopping.Innovations and development of high-speed internet services (broadband) has increased usage rich media applications.Rich media applications are comfortably available to shoppers on internet.environmentalAwareness about pollution and global warming.Reduced travel and more shopping online.Corporate social responsibility and global pressure to go green. Can incorporate concept of green within postage and packaging, methods.LegalNo standard regulations governing e-retailing covering entire globe. Eg. Federal trade commission in USA and data protection act in UK.Should be well aware of both domestic and international legal laws.European E-retailing directiveCould impact the cross Continental growth of e-retailing considering strict regulations (Jacobson, 2008 as cited in Zugelder et al, 1999).The invention of electronic signatures Law.Removes traditional legal methodologies and instate more secure and transparent legal environment.Summary of PESTELPESTEL factors indicate magnetic global market to be exploited by Amazon.com. Asian markets have reflected tremendous growth opportunities in recent bypast. procession and usage of internet for social networking has led to unexampled opportunities to be exploited. Amazon.com should support environment friendly actions as increased importance is been given to environment these days, also to be a authorized global company Amazon.com has to incorporate single global strategy which involves legalities common to all of the globe.2.1.2 Industry contest analysis (PORTERs Model)For any organisation the industry and competitor analysis is important as it comes handy for businesses to understand the competitive forces, market status, factors influencing, competitive strategic actionations.Porters five-spot Forces analysis is used to assess the attractiveness of different industries, and therefore, it can help in illustrating the sources of competition in a particular industry (Johnson et al, 2006).Porters five forcesHighLowPower of suppliersSuppliers retain the control as few brands and special products inc rease the cost down the network. For example Harry Potter books are exclusive from publisher which is an advantage for Amazon.comE- Retailing sets a stage and makes it much easier for businesses to sell products directly to consumers without any third party in-between.Power of suppliers rise if the control of certain type of products rests with one supplier than fragmented.Products available easily pose low power to suppliers and they have to act to a mower margin.Wider the market, wider is the scope for suppliers thereby increasing number of suppliers.Power of buyerIncreased market competition has increased the power of buyers. Increase in number of online stores and comparison sites makes e-retailing business even more difficult.Threat of new entrantsInitial bang-up required for such a business is very low as it doesnt involve any inventory and storage costs and will only need to implement technologyStrong brand image incorporates good customer relations and trust.Since the compe tition is very tight the suppliers who emphasize on economies of scale and consider business turnover over profits make more business and profits in the long runLeaders in the online retail industry hold the advantage of customer loyalty and database while giving edge over the cost.Threat of SubstitutesLatest marketing factors such as feel, touch, hear physical stores makes an effect. wholeness of the major threats to Amazon.com is online rentals instead of purchase as make up by texbookflix.com, bookrenter.com which reduces cost and pile of trash to a major extent.Internet is a global marketplace where consumers can get information and products which are much better in quality and from overseas online for no or very little cost.E-libraries, $ and pound shops mark greater threat nowadays.Mail orders, network marketing, catalogues although not very popular and effective yet pose threat to online buyingCompetitive Rivalry seem engine plays a major role at the consumer end for it act s as interface between seller and buyer which generates opportunities and PR to other e-retailers.Due to low initial investment costs there are a numerous affiliate online stores which are smaller still increase the competition.Summary of key findings from Porters Five ForcesThe competition in e-retailing industry is intense. There are number of small organizations adding frequently making the situation even worse. Main competitors to Amazon.com are BN and E-bay.The threat posed by small players and new entrants who can equally compete directly with Amazon.com is very low. When consumers consider prices of goods they also consider brand image and if they are reliable, most of customers expect quality service than just quantity and lower priced service.2.1.3 Competitor analysis / BenchmarkingAmazon.com has a wide product range and equally wide number of websites that compete with Amazon.com. Most of the e-retailers concentrate on introducing variety of products in the current availabl e market or entering the new markets across the globe or both in order to maintain economies of scale which helps catch up with the tone of e-commerce industry. If we consider how diversified the product line is and the geographical markets catered, eBay poses direct competition to Amazon.com. However Amazon.com is the market leader in current trend and they have immediate urgency to expand both their product line and geographical take a crap to remain as leaders. As we can notice in the above graph, in 2006 Amazon.coms growth rate as compared to that of walmart was very low because walmart was a bulletproof brand by then and had advantages of cross channel synergies and in-store pick up. In 2007 we observe the amazon getting closer to walmarts growth rateas they diversified into products such as music, cds, dvds, mp3 players and more due to increased competition from these players walmart has been losing its market share continuously and however once can see that by 2008 Amazon.c om is almost overtaken the walmart by providing with various offers such as free delivery and customer reviews.(Source Data monitor)The above table shows position of Amazon.com but they are more diversified into the product line and geographically well spread. Companies like apple, hp, and dell do online retailing only for focussed group of products. However store based companies grew very strongly in 2008, but due to economical, hit not too many companies was able to survive. Amazon.com did by lowering delivery charges and provided with best offers. They also introduced ad-free TV and own transfer service and film streaming service in 2008 to outplay all of their competitors.Through competitor analysis it can be bring to an endd thatBN.com is the leading competitor to Amazon in lifestyle goods and books. However, Amazon has a diversified product range.Wal-Mart.com has almost similar prices as compared to Amazon but they have better product range such as pharmacy, photo printing a nd etc.Ebay.com also has a wider product range and better geographical reach but their concept is different to Amazon.comMore competitive threat posed by Tesco, Wal-Mart as they have physical stores and eBay has better geographical reach, but however Amazon.com has option to develop the strategic alliances as they did in Japan with Lawson to capture the market.Amazon.com has to design its strategies to address these competitive threats.2.1.4 Global internet trendsInternet Usage china, US, Germany, India, Brazil, Japan are amongst the exonerate 5 countries where internet is used the most Amazon.com has made its impact in all the above countries except for India. This implies and directs Amazon.com to exploit hidden opportunity in Asian market and Brobdingnagian business potential for future. Graph downstairs shows the popularity of internet in the 21st century, which indicates the future of e-commerce as trends keep changing.CUsersWELCOMEDesktoptop202010.jpeg(Source Worldinternets tats.com)The graph below shows the dominance of Amazon.com sector wise. The balloon shows of all the business done by amazon.com majority has been in internet retailing direct selling, vending and home shopping is almost void. This reflects the influence of internet on the business of Amazon.com. It is also seen below emerging markets and present markets where currently Amazon.com has its presence. Of all the retail sales value Amazon.com holds a very small share but then future trends look brighter as the CAGR expected is highest in India by 2011. This lays a pathway to Amazon.com as to establish themselves without any delay in India.(Source Data monitor)(Source Data monitor)2.2. INTERNAL ANALYSISInternal analysis can be conducted to determine relationship between the organizations available resources and its application to generate value proposition to the customer, it can also be used to determine the limitations, advantages and disadvantages within the organizations.2.2.1 The Va lue ChainThe value chain analysis helps determining the effectiveness of actions that makes organizations standout from their competitors and take a lead i.e. activities that are difficult to duplicate. Applying the framework laid by Amit and Zott (2001) analytical objective of value chain is attaining of feat cost economies value creation.
